Finding it hard to get traffic to your website?  We tend to look far and wide to source for traffic without realising that the most simple and highly effective way to do this is to capture Google's massive visitors by using its highly successful Adwords tools.  Highly targeted traffic is one of the most important aspect for any online business and the importance of driving traffic to a website determines the success of any online business.  You may have a nice and beautiful website that offers an excellent product or service or quality contents but if you do not use the right strategies to advertise, your site will not get any traffic and perhaps collect "internet dust". Attracting targeted traffic is a task that should be taken seriously for any site to prosper. We are fortunate that there are many internet marketing tools that helps to drive traffic to your website. One of the best and effective advertising services is Google's Adwords.

Google is the largest search engine on the web commanding over 60% of the search engine market share.  It is estimated that it receives over 200 million queries each day through its various services. As Google is the most popular search engine today, webmasters are keen on having their websites achieve a higher ranking in the search engine listings. A high ranking means more traffic for that website. But it is not easy to achieve a listing on the first page of Google's natural search engine listings. The search engine listings page is also a great venue for advertisers to promote a product or service through advertisements and links. This is where Google introduce its Adwords service  for business owners to advertise their products and services to a targeted audience. The benefits of Google Adwords is that it drives instant traffic to your website within ten minutes of setting up your advertisement.
So how does Google Adwords work? Google displays relevant text based advertisements within its search engine listings page under this term - "Sponsored Links". Whenever a particular keyword is searched on, these relevant links appear in a separate section giving excellent exposure to the sites listed.   Therefore whenever someone type a keyword into the search box and it matches your advertisement's keyword, your advertisment shows up and catches the visitor attention.  So if he or she click on your advertisement they are taken to your website and you have your first visitor.  

How do you use Google Adwords? First, you have to open an account with  Google Adwords. Then you should indicate your target language and country. This is important because you would not want your products advertised in countries where your product or service cannot be sold. Next you should now create an ad group. This involves designing the advertisement, selecting keywords and determining maximum cost per click that you are willing to spend and setting bid amounts. The most important step in creating a successful Adwords campaign is selecting an effective title tag that will catch the attention of your target audience. The title tag, generally a short phrase, is the most important part of your Adwords campaign so make sure that it includes your selected keyword.  A keyword is a phrase or words that is in the visitor's mind when he or she input this in the search box looking for information. So by putting the keyword in the title tag you capture his attention when the search listings shows up.    You should then describe the benefits and features of your product or service in the second and third lines of your advertisment and try also to include your keyword. The most effective advertising conveys a clear message to the target audience. With a clear message, you will be attracting qualified leads which will eventually lead to sale. So it is important to select the right keywords and you should use Google's Keyword Tool to find the right keywords.  Don't limit yourself to those keywords that Google's Keyword Tool throw at you.  There are keyword variations you can adapt to reach more prospects. Using these varieties, misspellings and derivatives can help increase the chance of your advertisements being served.  Don't forget to include negative keywords in your advertisment campaign which is helpful in filtering out untargeted traffic.  For example if you have a product that people need to pay for it  you should include the negative keyword "free". This will ensure that anyone who is searching for free stuff, your advertisement will not show up in their search results and this will save you money in the long term.

Once you decided on the title and description to use in your advertisement, you must now set a budget in order to maximize exposure. Google Adwords will always recommend a daily budget for each campaign. You should not follow this but you should determine a budget that is affordable to you. Next you need to set the maximum cost-per-click. Google will offer a recommended cost-per-click but again you do not have to follow this. Usually, a number one position is not ideal as it can also attract unwanted traffic and useless clicks. Ideally it should be on the first page of the search listings after the number one position.

Google Adwords is a great tool in giving your site maximum exposure.  It allows you to be listed on its first page listings (although you have to pay for it)  which is easier to achieve than
natural search engine listings which requires lots of work and search engine optimization. Finally, Google Adwords should not be your sole advertising campaign. But it will definitely help you drive the important and highly targeted traffic that you need.

Remember to login everyday to check on your Google Adwords account and review your advertisements.  See how you can tweak it to reach the goals that you set for it.  How you can improve the quality score and pay less for your clicks.  Consider to disable keyword that shows a lot of impression but no clicks if you can live without it.  This will help in improving the click- through-rate (CTR) which will help your quality score. If after sometime of monitoring, consider also to disable those advertisment that is not bringing in traffic and write another better advertisement to replace it.  In the end its all about daily monitoring and reviewing your advertisement as well as your competitors' advertisement.  One of best known strategy is to use the "Peel and Stick" formula.  Its about reviewing your keywords and see which is highly effective and take this keyword out and set up another ads group.
