If you are new
to internet marketing, the easiest method to
start earning money from the internet is through affiliate
marketing. Briefly affiliate marketing means you
promote
other people's products and you earn a commission on each sale that you
make.
Today there are literally thousands of products that you can promote as
an
affiliate and new products are being released constantly. The great
thing about being an affiliate is that you just promote other
people’s products, and therefore, you don’t have
the hassle of creating products yourself. You leave the whole
task of product creation, web sales copy, order processing and customer
support to the vendor. As an affiliate your job is simply to
advertise and get word out about the product. You can choose
almost any niche you’d like to promote products in as there
are affiliate products available for almost everything.
To be successful at promoting products as an affiliate it is important
to find a good-converting product to promote. Spending the time in the
beginning
to choose a product with good conversions will save you time in the
long term. Some products may work well for you and others not so well.
Sometimes it’s a matter of trial and error but you can at
least do a little bit of research to get an idea of how good a product
may sell. Your selected product doesn’t have to be

Clickbank literally has hundreds of information products to
choose from and you will find them categorized by topic.
Clickbank products have some statistics shown under each item. These
statistics can be quite helpful in choosing your product if you
understand what they mean.
$/sale
is the commission amount that you will receive for every sale you make
on the product.
%/sale
is the percentage of the total price that you receive in commission.
Most products will give you around 50% commission but there are many
that will give you up to 75%.
%refd
this is the percentage of sales that are made by affiliates. If this
percentage is high then that’s good, because the owner of the
product isn’t actively promoting the product too much,
thereby allowing the affiliates a good chance to promote it.
Grav
is the number of distinct affiliates who have earned a commission on
that product. This is a weighted sum and not an actual total.
For each affiliate paid within an 8 week period clickbank will add an
amount between 0.1 and 1.0 to the total. Many people will avoid
products with very low gravities because that could mean that they
aren’t selling very well, although it could also mean that
the product is new and hasn’t built up a large volume of
affiliates actively promoting it yet. For e.g. if you are
choosing a digital product to sell from Clickbank. From its
marketplace you can sort through products by popularity or by gravity.
Remember don't always look at high popularity products but take note
also at the gravity number. Consider choosing a product with gravity
numbers of between 60 to 140 as promoting a highly popular product
means you are going to compete with many experienced affiliate
marketers. Follow this method means it helps to level the
playing
field for you if you are new to affiliate marketing.
Products that appear first when you search a topic are generally the
products that are selling well. New products that have just been
launched can also be good sellers but may not have been on the market
long enough to have high stats yet. In fact, getting in on a product
when it is first launched can be very profitable.
You will also want to consider the price of a product when choosing
which products to promote. Expensive products may be harder to promote
and harder to get a lot of sales but at the same time, cheaper products
won’t give you as big a commission per sale.
As you can see, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Personally, we tend to aim for prices in the middle range that convert
well and still give a reasonably good commission per sale.
If you can find an expensive product that converts well, and if you can
find a good sales tactic that will get you tons of sales, then you can
do really well with these products. There are many people out
there who do it this way, and as a result of the higher commissions,
they don’t have to make as many sales to still earn a good
income.
I would summarize as follows what you should look out for in selecting
a suitable product to promote :
a) Look at the product and commission rates - aim for 50% or
more to make your efforts worthwhile.
b) Look for in-demand products -
Products
that appear first when you search a topic in the marketplace
(Clickbank) are generally the
products that are selling well.
c) Look at the sales page - read it yourself and
confirm it does a good job of convincing you to buy the
product.
Remember to cloak your Clickbank's hoplink (your affiliate link for the
product that you are promoting). This is to prevent a
customer from substituting his own nickname and getting commission for
the purchase. I know of a site that provides a
free link cloaking service but you need to join as a member to
use it. Sign up at LeadsLeap.com
if you need such a service.
You
will need to open an account with Clickbank to promote their
products as an affiliate. Clickbank pays out commissions twice a month
by check. You can access your account and check your balance and
transactions at any time. Clickbank is free to join as an affiliate,
although there is a small fee taken out of the commissions.

PayDotCom
is another affiliate program where you can find information products to
promote. When you make sales through PayDotCom your commissions are
paid into your PayPal account directly from the owners of the products.

Commission Junction is a very popular affiliate network and you can
