The beauty of being an affiliate marketer is that you do not need to have your own website (but it is recommended that you should have one in the near future), dealing with customers, refunds, product development and maintenance. For those who are new to this type of business, this is one of the easiest and best way of launching into an online business and generating passive income. Assuming you are already into an affiliate program so what would be the next thing you would want to do? Double or even triple your commissions. Am I right? But how do you do that?

Here are some useful tips on how to boost your affiliate program commissions:

1. Research the best programs and products to promote. Obviously you would want to promote a program that will enable you to achieve huge profits in the shortest possible time. That is a no brainer but this is only part of the equation. The most critical part is that of getting traffic to the programs or products that you are promoting.

There are several factors to consider in selecting such a program. Choose the ones that have a generous commission structure and products that fit in with your target audience. It also must have a solid track record of paying their affiliates easily and on time. An important step that you must do is to check out each program's payout policy e.g. some will pay out commissions to affiliates every 2 weeks or some 1 month later. Some will only pay out only if you reach a certain amount set by them. You would want to know when you are getting paid right? There are thousands of affiliate programs online which gives you the reason to be picky. You may want to select the best to avoid losing your advertising dollars.

Write free reports or short ebooks to distribute from your site. There is a great possibility that you are competing with other affiliates that are promoting the same program. If you start writing short reports relating to the product that you are promoting, you will be able to distinguish yourself from the other affiliates. In the reports, provide some valuable information for free. If possible, add some recommendations about the products. By writing ebooks your credibility is enhanced. Customers will see that in you and they will be enticed to try out what you are offering.

2. If you are giving away free products (e.g. ebooks or software) make sure that you collect and save the names and email addresses of those who download your freebies. It is a known fact that people do not make a purchase on the first offer. You may have to send out your offer more than six times in order to make a sale. A simple reason why you should collect contact information of those who downloaded your freebies is that you can send them follow-up messages to get them buy your product, offer them new products or send them freebies to build your relationship with your subscribers. So instead of one-time sale you could be earning recuring commissions. In short you have loyal subscribers that you can do email marketing to them whenever you want to and generating income at the same time.

As a affiliate marketer you are promoting products created by another person i.e. you are providing free advertisements (at your own expense) for the product owners. What you are also doing is you are sending traffic to the product owner's website which is not a good idea because once your potential customer is directed there chances are you will lose them forever. Not only you lose your potential clients you also lose your potential income. This is the reason why it is important that you get the contact information of a prospect before sending them to the vendor’s website for reasons mentioned in paragraph no. 2. To do this use presell pages for affiliate programs to build your list. This technique is used when promoting someone elses product. Before you drive traffic via google adwords or other means to the affiliate site....it is best to create a landing page, in where you can create a short blurb on the benefits of this program, and then create your subscription box that will refer them to the affiliate site. This way you can capture your leads contact info, and mail them offers in the future. 3. Publish an online newsletter or Ezine. It is always best to recommend a product to someone you know than to sell to a stranger. This is the main purpose behind publishing your own newsletter. This also allows you to develop a relationship based on trust with your subscribers. This strategy is a delicate balance between providing useful information with a sales pitch. If you continue to write informative editorials you will be able to build a sense of reciprocity in your readers that may lead them to support you by buying your products.

4. Ask for higher than normal commission from merchants. If you are already successful with a particular promotion, you should try and approach the merchant and negotiate a percentage commission for your sales. If the merchant is smart, he or she will likely grant your request rather than lose a valuable asset in you. Keep in mind that you are a zero-risk investment to your merchant; so do not be shy about requesting for addition in your commissions. Just try to be reasonable about it.

5. Write strong Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertisements. PPC search engine is the most effective means of advertising online and a powerful means of getting traffic to the products that you are promoting. As an affiliate marketer you can make a small income just by managing PPC campaigns such as Google AdWords, Yahoo-Search Marketing (formerly Overture) and Bidvertiser etc. Make sure to monitor them to see which advertisements are more effective and which ones to dispose of.
